Laundry Room Research

Not just for mom anymore

When Maytag Home Appliances surveyed consumers (through Decima Research), it found that laundry rooms aren't all that's changed.

Only two per cent of respondents had childhood recollections of their fathers doing the laundry. Today, 18 per cent of respondents claim the male head of the household is the Lord of Laundry in their home.

Guys love speed. Men reportedly do laundry faster than women.

Speaking of dream laundry rooms, when Canadians were asked what functions they dreamed of in their laundry machines, 25 per cent said they would like a washer that sorts and loads laundry for them.

More than one-third of respondents would like an all-in-one washer-and-dryer unit. Such units are available, but Whirlpool's Warrington Ellacott says North American consumers haven't warmed to them because of their length cycle times (four to five hours), and their drying system, which de-humidifies clothes, leaving them a little damp even at the end of the cycle.
